Webinar: Lessons from Iraq and Syria for Peacebuilding in Yemen | How Politicization and Division Threaten Transitional Justice
How can we pursue transitional justice in the face of political fragmentation? This is the topic of our new webinar, “Lessons from Iraq and Syria for Peacebuilding in Yemen | How Politicization and Division Threaten Transitional Justice”, organized alongside SAM for Rights and Liberties and the Abductees’ Mothers Association as part of the Transitional Justice Ambassadors Forum.
Iraq and Syria will be sharing lessons from their own efforts for justice. We will examine the risks posed by political interference to accountability, victim redress, and long-term peacebuilding, while reflecting on how transitional justice can serve as a pathway toward sustainable peace in Yemen.
We will be joined by Dr Fatima Al-Ani (Consultant at the Iraqi War Crimes Documentation Center), Hala Al-Qurashi (Yemeni Judge, Member of the Supreme Committee for Elections and Referendum & Member of the Association of Families of the Forcibly Disappeared), and Almoutassim Al-Kilani (International Criminal Law and Human Rights Syrian Lawyer). This dialogue session will be facilitated by Tawfik Al-Hamidi (Lawyer & Head of SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties).
