PROJECT LAUNCH: BRIDGE Syria – Survivor-Led Transitional Justice
In partnership with Global Harmony Foundation (GHF), we are proud to announce the launch of BRIDGE: a survivor-centered initiative designed to ensure that victims and survivors are active architects of Syria’s transitional justice process.
Syria stands at a critical crossroads: new accountability institutions are being established, a national transitional justice law is being drafted, and millions still carrying the weight of detention, forced disappearance, and loss remain largely unheard.
BRIDGE is here to change that by:
▶ Creating trauma-informed safe spaces for over 50 survivors in Damascus Yarmouk Camp and Rural Damascus Daraya.
▶ Facilitating structured dialogue between communities and national institutions, including the National Commission for Transitional Justice, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, representatives from Parliament, and the NGO Forum.
▶ Designing community-led restorative justice and memorialization initiatives.
▶ Developing a policy brief on the Transitional justice, Humanitarian development, and Peace nexus in Syria.
Early community engagement has demonstrated significant interest and a strong desire to participate, with expressions of interest already exceeding the project’s initial target number of participants, as one prospective participant shared:
“For years, our experiences have been spoken about by others. This is one of the first opportunities where we feel invited to speak for ourselves, be heard, and help shape what justice should look like for our communities.”
Justice must include survivors or it is not justice at all. And with the right support, Syria’s path toward accountability, reconciliation, and lasting peace can become a tangible reality.
Target locations: Damascus (Yarmouk Camp) & Rural Damascus (Daraya)
Project duration: June – November 2026
