DT Institute Celebrates International Women’s Day

This International Women’s Day, DT Institute is proud to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women from all around the world. The theme for this years’ International Women’s Day is #ChooseYourChallenge — a bold recognition and reminder that “a challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change.”

Like many organizations, the culture, collaboration, and success of DT Institute is made up of hard-working women who are paving the way for future generations. DT Institute invited three colleagues to weigh in on how they plan to celebrate International Women’s Day, what #ChooseYourChallenge means to them, and how their work contributes to the advancement of women.

AmalMeet Amal Hakimi, Program Manager
Q: How will you be celebrating International Women’s Day?
A: Sending greetings to all female friends, especially those who had impact in my life and supported me through my life.

Q: What does the 2021 International Women’s Day slogan,
#ChooseToChallenge mean for you in your life?
A: Change begins with challenge. If we want to see a real change we should challenge our society, family, politics, social norms and even ourselves to be better.

Q: What part of your work contributes to the advancement of women?
A: I’ve always set myself to at least be an example for those coming from similar societies and face challenges as women to participate equally and follow their dreams, and prove that we can do it and all we need is to start at some point.

Q: How will you be celebrating International Women’s Day

A:
Monday’s for me at DT Institute are busy days, so I think
I’ll be celebrating it much like every other Monday—
jumping into the week feet first, pushing out my morning
meetings and probably working to contain my anticipation of
my second COVID JAB on the 10th.

Q: What does the 2021 International Women’s Day slogan, #ChooseToChallenge mean for you in your life?
A: Again…fairly work related. I have spent many years past in the counter terrorism, wildlife crime and human trafficking arenas, and I am committed in a landscape now complicated by COVID, to trying to develop programming ideas that are innovative and meet the unique challenges we’ve all faced in the last year. Fortunately I work for a company that encourages innovation and thought leadership, and I’m trying to live up to that challenge.

Q: What part of your work contributes to the advancement of women?
A: In many of the regions where I’ve worked and continue to work, inclusion of women has been an important ingredient. That continues to be a focus of mine—forming alliances and collaborations with women around the world, who are grappling with societal, family and community challenges and who bring a special intelligence and fortitude to their efforts. Supporting them and growing their internal capacities is a focus of much of my work at DT Institute.

Meet: Erin Wagner, Manager, Grants and Partnerships
Q: How will you be celebrating International Women’s Day?
A: I will be celebrating and increasing the visibility of the
achievements of the women in my personal and professional
networks.

Q: What does the 2021 International Women’s Day slogan, #ChooseToChallenge mean for you in your life?
A: To me, #ChoosetoChallenge is a call for women and allies for women everywhere to continually challenge their thoughts and actions to ensure they accurately reflect the desire for a more equal and inclusive world.

Q: What part of your work contributes to the advancement of women?
A: DT Institute funds and supports women and allies for women worldwide who are working tirelessly to advance women’s rights and opportunities. Daily, I am humbled by their leadership, perseverance, and courage. It is an honor to play a small part in helping them pursue their efforts to advance peace and prosperity for women and all people.
