Advocacy & Civic Engagement

Our approach advances transparent governance and inclusive civic participation through strategic advocacy, social behavioral change, and public accountability. We amplify the voices of changemakers and generate evidence that helps them advocate for change by documenting human rights violations, supporting grassroots initiatives, and enabling engagement with governments, international organizations and mechanisms, and the private sector. Through research and practice around political, economic, and social issues, we open new pathways for collective action and democratic dialogue.

Global Water Challenge

Over the past decade, the Government of Ethiopia tried several times to develop an inventory of rural water services for SDG monitoring. Despite these efforts, the government struggled with systems that can’t be updated, low-quality data, and limited ability to turn data into insights. DTI is partnering with Global Water Challenge to bring its proven approach of the Water Point Data Exchange (WPDx) to help the Government of Ethiopia harmonize diverse datasets and transform that data into accurate estimates of basic water coverage across the country to track SDG progress. This project will provide all stakeholders with the most comprehensive dataset ever compiled, the ability to easily and routinely update data, and the tools needed to use the data in estimating SDG progress at a sub-national level.
