WEBINAR: Ending Impunity Through Sanctions & Documentation

Under the SPARK-created Transitional Justice Ambassadors Forum (TJAF), SPARK partners are hosting a webinar focused on the intersection of Yemeni transitional justice and regional accountability for transnational human rights abuses.  

Throughout Yemen’s prolonged conflict, illicit cross-border networks have formed and sustained human rights abuses and impunity, prolonging the broader conflict. These include illicit financing, smuggling, and logistical support networks, many of which are linked to the Houthi (Ansar Allah) Movement and its regional backers. Even though Yemeni civil society organizations undertook extensive documentation, much of it was gathered for advocacy and monitoring purposes through a singular country-specific lens. Thus, existing evidence is not necessarily designed to meet the technical requirements of international sanctions, visa restrictions, or similar accountability mechanisms aimed at addressing cross-border networks and abuses. 

This webinar aims to open a dialogue on methods through which Yemeni civil society can leverage its existing documentation and monitoring capabilities to develop accountability-oriented end products that can counter regional impunity. The discussion will also seek to enhance cooperation and information exchange among regional civil society actors and networks, encouraging the standardization of methodologies and streamlined collaboration for more effective accountability efforts that will reduce regional impunity and further contribute to Yemeni transitional justice built upon the rule of law.
